Derek Haskell is a community leader, youth advocate, and program developer committed to creating opportunity and building stronger communities. His career has been centered on serving people—working with young people and families, developing workforce opportunities, supporting education, and creating partnerships that turn community challenges into practical solutions.

Derek's experience spans mental health and employment development, disaster recovery following Hurricane Katrina, working with military children and families at Pearl Harbor, Los Angeles Unified School District students, and Carson Recreation and Parks. These experiences have shaped his belief that effective leadership begins by listening to people and understanding the challenges they face firsthand.

As the Executive Director of the C3 Foundation (Community Creates Change), Derek has developed initiatives focused on youth development, education advancement, homelessness services, and community improvement. He has also helped develop statewide initiatives including the California Youth Medical Training Program and the California Prison Arts Initiative, reflecting his commitment to creating innovative solutions that can expand opportunities and strengthen communities.

Derek is a graduate of Paine College, an HBCU in Augusta, Georgia, where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration with a minor in Marketing.

Today, Derek is running for Carson City Council District 2 because he believes Carson deserves leadership that listens, builds partnerships, and delivers practical results.

His vision is centered on youth opportunity, safe and clean neighborhoods, workforce and economic development, practical solutions to homelessness and housing, strong parks and infrastructure, and transparent, accountable city government.
