Derek Haskell is a community leader, youth advocate, and program developer whose career has been built around service, opportunity, and practical solutions. His experience spans mental health and employment development, disaster recovery following Hurricane Katrina, working with military children and families at Pearl Harbor, serving LAUSD students, working with Carson Recreation and Parks, and serving as Special Assistant to the Honorable Darren W. Parker, a longtime California community and political leader who served as Chairman of the California Democratic Party’s African American Caucus, President of the Antelope Valley Democratic Club, Vice Chair of the Los Angeles County Democratic Party, and an advisor to California Assembly leadership.

As Executive Director of the C3 Foundation (Community Creates Change), Derek has developed programs and partnerships focused on youth development, education, workforce opportunity, homelessness, and community improvement. He has also helped develop statewide initiatives including the California Youth Medical Training Program and the California Prison Arts Initiative, creating innovative approaches to youth career development, rehabilitation, education, and community impact.

Derek's experience has taught him that effective leadership requires more than identifying problems—it requires bringing people together, developing solutions, and following through. He brings a background in community service, program development, workforce development, education, organizational leadership, and partnership building to his campaign for Carson City Council District 2.
